Force transmission in a packing of pentagonal particles.
We perform a detailed analysis of the contact force network in a dense confined packing of pentagonal particles simulated by means of the contact dynamics method. The effect of particle shape is evidenced by comparing the data from pentagon packing and from a packing with identical characteristics, except for the circular shape of the particles. A counterintuitive finding of this work is that, ...

In this report, we evaluate the present state of the rapidly emerging field of monolayer-protected cluster (MPC) molecules with regard to their synthesis and monolayer functionalization, their core and monolayer structure, their composition, and their properties. Finally, we canvass some of the important remaining research opportunities involving MPCs.
متن کاملSCOZA for Monolayer Films
We show the way in which the self-consistent Ornstein-Zernike approach (SCOZA) to obtaining structure factors and thermodynamics for Hamiltonian models can best be applied to two-dimensional systems such as monolayer films. We use the nearest-neighbor lattice gas on a square lattice as an illustrative example.
متن کاملDense Packing of Patterns in a Permutation
We study the length Lk of the shortest permutation containing all patterns of length k. We establish the bounds e−2k2 < Lk ≤ (2/3 + o(1))k2 . We also prove that as k → ∞, there are permutations of length (1/4+o(1))k2 containing almost all patterns of length k.
